Agustina Ferreyra Joins CDMX’s OMR as Director, Her Gallery to Close

Top Mexico City gallery OMR announced on Wednesday that Agustina Ferreyra, another major dealer in the city, will join the gallery as director.

Ferreyra established her own gallery in San Juan, Puerto Rico in 2013 before later moving it to Mexico City. Ferreyra has long focused her program on supporting young and emerging Latin American artists.

Ferreyra joins OMR after testing the waters in February during Mexico City Art Week with Bodega, a collaborative initiative with the gallery. For Bodega, Ferreyra and OMR staged a solo exhibition by Argentina artist Ad Minoliti at the gallery’s storage facilities in Colonia Doctores, a neighborhood adjacent to chic Roma Norte, where many galleries in the city are based.

As part of her new role at OMR, Ferreyra will continue to operate Bodega as artistic director, leading programming and overall direction of the project space.

“I’m excited to think of BODEGA as a space for experimentation, where processes can be shared, where I can work with artists at key moments of their careers, and where we can strengthen the art community through collective thinking,” Ferreyra said in a statement. “In this new stage, I can expand my practice and curatorial interests within such a longstanding organization.”

In a note shared to the gallery’s Instagram, Ferreyra announced that her eponymous gallery would conclude its programming and close on April 30.

“From the beginning, I set out to work with artists I believed in, without compromising my vision of presenting work that addressed concerns and themes that affect me daily,” Ferreyra wrote. “I am deeply proud that this project has existed for more than a decade.”
