AMTD Group Inc, AMTD IDEA Group, AMTD Digital Inc and The Generation Essentials Group, a subsidiary of AMTD Digital, are pleased to announce the appointment of Benjamin Sutton as Global Editor-in-Chief of The Art Newspaper.
Founded in 1990, The Art Newspaper has grown into a multi-platform brand widely regarded as the “journal of record” and the “bible” for the art world. It is an authoritative cornerstone for the industry and the designated publication for leading art events, including Art Basel, Frieze, Art Dubai, Art Week Tokyo, Singapore Art Week, Tefaf (The European Fine Art Fair), the Venice Biennale, Zona Maco and others.
Benjamin joined The Art Newspaper as Editor, Americas in 2021, and was in charge of running the New York office. His most recent role was the Editor in Chief, Americas, managing the editorial team and contributors in that region, overseeing expansion of its coverage across North and South America. Under Benjamin’s leadership, The Art Newspaper has successfully broadened its coverage into Canada and Latin America. Benjamin has been leading the execution of The Art Newspaper‘s popular fair dailies at Art Basel Miami Beach, Frieze Los Angeles and Frieze New York, while overseeing the launch of its first bilingual English-Spanish project in Mexico City.
“The Art Newspaper has maintained its reputation as the art industry’s leader for vital news and analysis for more than 35 years,” Benjamin Sutton, Global Editor-in-Chief of The Art Newspaper, says. “It has been a pleasure to work with my colleagues these past five years to expand our reach into new regions and languages, all the while maintaining the foundational principles on which the publication’s reputation rests. I am honoured to have the opportunity to lead The Art Newspaper toward new milestones.”
As Global Editor-in-Chief, Benjamin will set and execute the global editorial strategy, expanding coverage and market presence, accelerating digital and multimedia growth, and upholding the publication’s standards of accuracy, independence, and authority.
