A cornerstone of the European art world calendar, Miart 2025 is set to present 179 galleries hailing from 30 countries this April 4–6, with a VIP preview on April 3. Led by Artistic Director Nicola Ricciardi, and supported by a dynamic team of curators and other art world experts, the fair will once again feature three distinct sections, Established, Emergent, and Portal; allowing visitors to explore and discover an incredible historical breadth of Modern and contemporary art. And with a combination of both returning favorites and first-time exhibitors—from Ben Brown Fine Arts and Sadie Coles HQ to Victoria Miro and Esther Schipper—Miart 2025 promises a comprehensive and multifaceted array of presentations.
The recently announced theme of the forthcoming edition of Miart takes inspiration from Robert Rauschenberg’s seminal solo show at MoMA in 2017, titled “among friends.” Reflecting the fair’s mission to build and support an ecosystem of relationships, it also taps into the core concepts of Rauschenberg’s practice, including collaboration, active participation, dialogue, and an openness to cross discipline inquiry. As they have for the four previous years, Miart has created a compelling visual campaign for “among friends” produced by studio Cabinet Milano, which sets the tone for the theme. Enigmatic yet fascinating, the photos and videos feature a cast of characters whose gestures and interactions are left open to viewer interpretation, evoking ideas around absurdity, meaning, and understanding.
Within the exhibitor presentations, visitors will be met with curated exhibitions and programs. In the Established section, Timescape features a thematic journey through art historical periods that are increasingly outside of the fair’s scope. Curated micro-exhibitions take sharp focus on moments in the first half of the 20th century, allowing for not only a reappraisal of modern masters, but the creation of a dialogue between art of a century ago and art of today.
The Emergent section will see 25 international galleries platforming the newest generation of artists, and the Portal section will be curated by the Director of Triangle Network in London and Curator of Fondazione Memmo in Rome Alessio Antoniolli. Here, ten galleries will showcase monographic presentations that push the boundaries between disciplines, time, and spatial borders to uncover new connections and narratives. Eschewing methods of categorization and conventional understandings, Portal offers new perspectives on culture, society, technology, and more—as well as how these concepts intersect.
Whether attending for the first time or a long-time annual visitor, Miart 2025 will once again reaffirm its position as a thought leader in the realm of Modern and contemporary art.
Miart will be held April 4–6, 2025.
