Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the , and sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the lost 0.47%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the were Tilray Inc (TSX:), which rose 19.77% or 0.52 points to trade at 3.15 at the close. MDA Ltd (TSX:) added 2.65% or 0.37 points to end at 14.33 and Brookfield Renewable Energy Partners LP (TSX:) was up 2.16% or 0.66 points to 31.21 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Osisko Mining Corp (TSX:), which lost 4.90% or 0.14 points to trade at 2.72 in late trade. Power Corporation Of Canada (TSX:) declined 4.62% or 1.84 points to end at 37.98 and Birchcliff Energy Ltd . (TSX:) shed 3.75% or 0.20 points to 5.13.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 610 to 331 and 102 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 7.37% to 10.92.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.79% or 17.35 to $2,167.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.22% or 0.18 to hit $80.89 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.16% or 0.14 to trade at $85.64 a barrel.

CAD/USD was unchanged 0.54% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.07% to 0.68.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.43% at 104.11.
