Howard W. Lutnick has been confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the 41st Secretary of Commerce. Relating to this confirmation, Lutnick officially stepped down as: chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Cantor Fitzgerald Income Trust Inc., and chairman and CEO of trust sponsor Cantor Fitzgerald L.P., global brokerage and financial technology company BGC Group Inc., and commercial real estate services company Newmark Group Inc.
Lutnick led Cantor Fitzgerald L.P. for four decades and rebuilt the company after losing 658 of its 960 New York-based employees, in the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. The Cantor Fitzgerald group of companies now employ more than 14,000 professionals.
Cantor Fitzgerald Income Trust is a publicly registered non-traded real estate investment trust formerly known as Rodin Global Property.
The board appointed Brandon Lutnick to serve as a Cantor Fitzgerald Income Trust director and chairman of the board, effective March 5, 2025, for his term to expire at the earlier of the 2025 annual stockholders’ meeting, or until his successor is duly elected and qualified. Brandon Lutnick will not be appointed to any committees of the board.
The REIT stated that Brandon Lutnick is qualified to serve on the board “due to his diverse corporate experience, including managing corporate strategy and overseeing special projects.”
Brandon Lutnick, age 27, had served as chairman of Cantor Fitzgerald L.P. and CEO of CF Group Management Inc., the managing general partner of Cantor, since February 2025. He joined Cantor in April 2022 in equity sales and trading and most recently has worked in the Office of the Chairman, managing strategy and overseeing other special projects relating to Cantor and its affiliates since April 2024. Since April 2024, Brandon Lutnick has also served as the chairman and CEO of Cantor’s special purpose acquisition companies, commonly referred to as SPACs.
Prior to his positions at Cantor, Brandon Lutnick began his career as a credit analyst at Oak Hill Advisors L.P. in June 2021. In May 2021, Brandon Lutnick graduated from Stanford University with a bachelor’s degree in symbolic systems.
Also in terms of leadership appointments, the board appointed William Ferri to serve as CEO of the REIT, effective March 5, 2025, for his term to expire at the earlier of the 2025 annual stockholders’ meeting, or until his successor is duly elected and qualified.
Ferri, age 58, is global head of Cantor Fitzgerald Asset Management. He joined Cantor Fitzgerald in January 2022 after a 25+ year career at UBS. Since 2017, Ferri was head of Americas for UBS Asset Management. From 2007 until December 2021, Ferri was group managing director, and the longest tenured leader on the UBS Asset Management Executive Board, a tenure during which the business grew to over $1 trillion in assets under management.
Also, Ferri was a key founder of the UBS O’Connor and Hedge Fund Solutions businesses in 2000, according to Cantor Fitzgerald. Ferri started his career in 1991 practicing corporate law at Seward & Kissel.
Ferri earned his Juris Doctor from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law and his bachelor’s degree in industrial and labor relations from Cornell University.
Cantor Fitzgerald Income Trust launched in March 2017 to invest in a portfolio of income-producing commercial real-estate, as well as debt secured by commercial real estate, located primarily in the United States. The REIT has had sold shares in its offerings for aggregate net proceeds of $282.1 million as of June 15, 2023.
