Croatan Investments, a rental housing investment manager for private wealth and institutional capital, has promoted Senior Vice President of Transactions Ben Bartlett to chief operating officer. Bartlett will be responsible for the day-to-day operations and strategic management of the firm. In his new role, he will help lead the company’s team, growth, and culture. Additionally, he is a member of the firm’s investment and executive committees.

“In Ben’s tenure with Croatan, he has become a leader not only in the transactions department, but across the entire team,” said Paul Van, chief executive officer. “He has made significant progress growing our [build-to-rent] platform in this challenging market and given his depth of experience in corporate operations, I’m looking forward [to] him supporting the growth of our firm from his new position as COO.”

Prior to joining Croatan, Bartlett served as the chief operating officer, and, ultimately,  the chief executive officer of private equity firm Convergence Investments, where he implemented the company strategy and institutionalized corporate policies and procedures. In this role, he led a real estate private equity fund, focusing on residential master planned communities and oversaw the development of more than 2,000 single family units across multiple projects in the mid-Atlantic and Texas.

Bartlett previously served as vice president of operations for Artemis Real Estate Partners, where he was responsible for corporate operations initiatives with a focus on property, fund, and portfolio level financial performance. He was also part of the management team of the private equity fund, Easterly Partners, that took the company public through an initial public offering on the NYSE.

Croatan Investments is a private equity real estate manager focused on rental housing investments, often multifamily assets across the Mid-Atlantic and Sun Belt regions. Founded in 2004 and headquartered in Virginia Beach, Va., Croatan has team members operating in Atlanta, Dallas, San Diego, and Washington D.C.
