Meet the 6 Gallerists Transforming Nigeria’s Art Scene, as Art X Lagos Opens

As Art X Lagos celebrates its tenth anniversary this week, the event has evolved into more than simply an art fair—it’s become a cultural movement. Since its inception, the fair, which runs November 6 to November 9, has bridged local and global audiences, spotlighting contemporary African voices while nurturing a new generation of collectors.

However, the success of Art X Lagos wouldn’t be possible without the broader ecosystem of artists and dealers in Nigeria, who have helped define the visual language of contemporary African art.

Lagos sits at the center of this transformation. It’s a city that never stops moving—chaotic yet deeply inspiring—where ideas collide and somehow come together. It’s the hub that keeps these gallerists and the artists they work with pushing forward, feeding off its unpredictability and rhythm. Here, art, music, design, and fashion coexist in constant dialogue, shaping one another in real time and pointing toward the future of art in Nigeria.

ARTnews caught up with six top gallerists in Lagos to see how they are building the city’s cultural scene.
