With a focus on cross-cultural dialogues and diverse voices from across the art world, Vedica Art Studios and Gallery in Mumbai, India, maintains a truly international program that brings interconnectedness to the forefront. Founded by Siddhant Khattri, the gallery maintains a global presence at numerous major art fairs, and also fosters a transnational element, staging exhibitions and events for an international array of artists, and offering virtual and digital opportunities.

In light of Vedica Art Studios and Gallery’s unique and dynamic approach to the contemporary art world, we reached out to Khattri to learn more about the gallery’s mission and upcoming exhibitions.

For those new to Vedica Art Studios and Gallery, how would you describe the mission or ethos behind the gallery’s program and activities?

Vedica Art Studios and Gallery represents artists from more than 10 countries who unite the diverse cultures through their remarkable and conceptual works. Our mission emphasizes artists’ growth and creativity to curate powerful exhibitions that transcend global boundaries.

We methodically select determined artists who have strong work ethic and reflect the contemporary cosmopolitan nature of our gallery. We have cultivated a supportive ecosystem, offering an artist advisory, webinars, and studio visits in collaboration with esteemed art universities, galleries, and advisory groups to nurture artists’ talents.

Our multicultural team excels in organizing multiple exhibitions and events simultaneously characterized by inclusive themes and immersive experiences that invite a dialogue with collectors and art professionals.

Next month, the group exhibition “Unveiling” debuts. Can you tell us about the theme of the show, and the types of work that will go on view?

At the core of “Unveiling” is an intricate exploration of narcissism, reinterpreted not as a barrier but as a gateway to cultivating an authentic and resilient self. Barbara Rachko’s “Bolivianos” series weaves vibrant Andean cultural motifs with layered symbolism, reflecting the challenges and revelations inherent in the journey of self-discovery.

Susan Fraser-Hughes deepens this inquiry with her “Just a Moment” and “I Am…” series, presenting her transition from feeling the compulsion to be faceless, wearing a mask (“Just a Moment” series), to an introspective self, fusing with her ancestral echoes and the complete grounding as in “I Am…”.

Fina Ferrara enriches this narrative through a transformative performance, embodying the progression from chaos to serenity, inspired by Rachko’s visual language and the contemplative tranquility of Fraser-Hughes’ works.

What went into producing this exhibition? How were the artists chosen?

This exhibition is rooted in the shared personal experiences of the three artists and myself. Engaging in discussions with these accomplished creators about their struggles to establish a sense of reality shaped the foundation of “Unveiling”. I prioritize building personal connections with artists, delving into their research, creative journeys, and intended messages.

The selected artists—Barbara Rachko (U.S.A.), Susan Fraser-Hughes (Canada), and Fina Ferrara (Mexico)—portray together their groundbreaking works the evolution from identity crises to self-realization. This unique exhibition unites three North American women artists in Mumbai, India, highlighting their bold and reflective artistic expressions.

How does this exhibition reflect or fit within the gallery’s overarching exhibition program?

The exhibition “Unveiling” exemplifies Vedica Art Studios and Gallery’s dedication to fostering a more inclusive and interconnected world through art. The conceptual depth and cultural symbolism of these works align with the gallery’s overarching mission to transcend boundaries and promote unity through shared artistic experiences. By showcasing works that unite cultural symbolism with personal introspection, “Unveiling” reflects the gallery’s ethos of curating universal and captivating exhibitions. This event furthers our dedication to creating a global platform for dialogue among artists, collectors, and art professionals, reinforcing our vision of connecting diverse cultures through conceptual and impactful art.

What do you hope visitors will take away with them after seeing the show?

Together, these artists construct a compelling dialogue, encouraging viewers to confront inner tensions and embrace vulnerability as a catalyst for self-reconstruction. The exhibition invites visitors to engage with the artworks on a deeply personal level, reflecting on their own experiences of identity and transformation. Through the thoughtful expressions of exhibited artists, the show provides a powerful framework for understanding how vulnerability can lead to authentic self-realization.

In addition to those attending physically, visitors from over 15 countries are also joining the exhibition via Zoom, creating a truly global experience. It allows a diverse audience of collectors, therapists, and professionals from various fields to interact during the opening reception with the artists, creating an impactful intersection of art, psychology, and human connection.

Are there any specific works or performances that you are especially excited about?

I am particularly excited about Ferrara’s opening performance, which profoundly embodies the theme of transformation. Her performance marks a powerful transition from the vibrant chaos present in Rachko’s works to the serene subtleties explored in Fraser-Hughes’ pieces. Considering her existing performance pieces—The Excruciating Seat (2022) and None of Your Business (2019)—I wait for Fina to offer a revolutionary insight into the struggles of identity crises through her performance art. This performance, alongside the artists’ thought-provoking works, feels like a true manifestation of my personal journey, and I am eager to share this experience with the audience. I am deeply moved by how it has the potential to inspire viewers to personally connect with the transformative power of art.

Beyond “Unveiling,” are there any other future exhibitions or events forthcoming that you can share with us?

We plan to celebrate April 2025 as an Art Month with a series of global Open Studio Days, hosted under the umbrella of Vedica Art Studios and Gallery. This event will offer an opportunity for artists and audiences to engage in a dynamic exchange of ideas and creativity. Additionally, we have a vibrant slate of upcoming events this year, including our participation in the Noise Media Art Fair in Istanbul, Art Mumbai, Art Cologne, and Vienna Contemporary.
