In the tech giant’s annual results on 1 February, Meta said it would introduce its first ever dividend at 50 cents (39p) a share. The announcement fuelled a huge market response and served to drive its share price up considerably, contributing to a more than £110bn being added to its valuation on the day.
Meta, formerly Facebook, alongside the likes of Amazon, Netflix, Google and Apple, is part of the FAANGs, a term first coined by Jim Cramer in 2013 to describe some of the most prominent companies in the tech sector.
