10+ Cheap Halloween Costumes You Can Make in Minutes

Halloween is one week away and if you’re like most people you’re waiting until the last minute to put together your costume. Most Halloween parties and events will take place this weekend, so if you are in a pinch, consider making one of these cheap Halloween costumes. They only take a few minutes!

Formal Apology

If you’re looking for a costume that will get a few laughs and won’t break the bank, this will cost you less than $10 (at most). Just grab a dress or suit from your closet and write “apology” across a sash in Sharpie. The sash will cost about $9 on Amazon.

Tom Cruise From Risky Business

Cheap Halloween Costumes

Of all the cheap Halloween costumes, this one is a classic! Tom Cruise from Risky Business, as you may remember, just had a button up, sunglasses and socks. You’ll obviously also want to wear shorts or some type of pants but, altogether, this look will cost less than $20 (and even less if you already have some of the items in your wardrobe).

50 Shades of Grey

This costume may be a little “tongue-in-cheek,” but it will certainly get a few laughs and cost you next to nothing. You can pick up the paint samples for free from just about any home improvement store or Walmart. Then, tape or glue the samples to a plain t-shirt (something most of us already have). If you want to grab a new shirt, you can pick up a plain tee for about $8 most places.

Emoji Makeup

All you’ll need to pull off this simple look is a bit of face paint and a small amount of artistic skill. However, once you decide which emoji you’d like to be, it will only take minutes to transform. Here’s a video to get started.

Harry Potter

Are you crazy about Harry Potter? Living in one of the Hogwarts houses in your dreams? Playing Harry Potter house quizzes? All you’ll need to pull off this awesome look is oval glasses and a striped scarf, which you can nab on Amazon for about $10. For the scar, you’ll need non-toxic face paint or if you’re looking to be even more frugal, you can use eyeliner or makeup.

2007 Britney Spears

Remember Britney Spears in 2007? She had a complete mental breakdown and shaved her head. Although the star has made a huge comeback, she probably won’t ever live that moment down. All you’ll need to pull off the unstable Britney look is a sweatshirt, athletic shorts, sneakers, an umbrella, and (if you’re into it) a shaved head. You can also purchase bald “wigs” if you’d prefer to not ruin your head for years.

Spice Girls

This is a fun group look that you can pull together with little-to-no effort at all and it’s fairly cheap. You’ll need to plan ahead a little to print out the large spice photos (you’ll probably want to go to a place like Staples to do that). The rest you can grab on Amazon or at your local Walmart for pretty cheap. A red apron will run you about $4.50 on Amazon and the hat will cost around $7. Voila! You and your friends are the “spice girls.”

Ghost

Of all the cheap Halloween costumes out there, this one is definitely a classic. People have been draping sheets over themselves and cutting out eye holes for decades. If you have a spare white sheet, you won’t even spend a dime making this and it takes minutes to prepare.

Rosie the Riveter

Rosie the Riveter is another popular Halloween costume that is extremely cheap and easy to pull off. All you need is a scarf, makeup, and a button-up shirt (denim or whatever color you’d like). Overall, depending on what you have around the house, you may not have to spend anything on this Halloween costume.

Pink or Blue Shirt Emoji

For this one, all you’ll need is a long-sleeve pink or blue shirt. Then you’ll be transformed into one of the most popular emojis around. You can grab a generic long-sleeve shirt for around $7 on Amazon.

Nerd Costume

If you have a button-up, glasses, suspenders, and a bow tie at home, you can pull this nerd look together in minutes! Even if you don’t have any of those things, you can pull the total look together for less than $20 easily.

Cat

DIY Halloween costumes

The cat look is fairly easy to put together. All you need is a pair of cat ears, which you can find for less than $10 on Amazon.

Smart Cookie Costume

Most of us still have our college or high school graduation gown collecting dust in our closets. Pull it out and tape printed photos of cookies to it for a quick and cheap Halloween costume!

These are just a few cheap Halloween costumes you can make in minutes. Most cost less than $20 and will take fewer than 10 minutes to put together. If you have any costume ideas you think should be added to the list, let us know in the comments!
