VIENNA, Va. – Spire (NYSE:) Global, Inc. (NYSE:SPIR), a provider of space-based data and analytics, has announced a collaboration with tech giant NVIDIA (NASDAQ:) to enhance weather prediction accuracy using artificial intelligence (AI). The partnership will integrate Spire’s satellite data and data assimilation capabilities with NVIDIA’s Earth-2 cloud AI APIs, aiming to provide more precise climate and weather forecasts.

Spire’s constellation of satellites employs Radio Occultation (RO) technology to collect detailed atmospheric data, such as temperature, pressure, and humidity profiles globally. This extensive coverage, especially in areas that are typically under-observed, is expected to be significantly augmented by NVIDIA’s AI technology.

Michael Eilts, Spire’s general manager of weather and climate, highlighted the potential of this partnership to improve the prediction of weather events, which is increasingly important as the climate changes. By combining Spire’s proprietary data and global weather coverage with NVIDIA’s AI expertise, the collaboration is set to offer improved forecast products that were previously unattainable with traditional numerical weather prediction models.

The advanced forecasting capabilities are anticipated to benefit Spire’s product offerings, including the DeepVision™ weather risk mitigation platform, maritime route optimization, and renewable energy power forecasts. These enhanced services aim to provide customers in various industries with more timely and accurate weather information, extending forecast lead times and reducing latency.

NVIDIA’s Earth-2 platform contributes to this initiative by providing tools for simulating and visualizing the global atmosphere with remarkable speed and scale, incorporating both physical and neural network models for weather prediction.
