SND: Trinchero To Acquire Mumm Napa From Pernod Ricard

Trinchero Family Wine & Spirits has agreed to acquire California sparkling wine house Mumm Napa from Pernod Ricard. Neither party disclosed financial terms. The move, first reported by Shanken News Daily (SND), a sister publication of Wine Spectator, deepens Trinchero’s participation in sparkling wine, an underrepresented area for the company, which produces 16 million cases annually. Trinchero CEO and president Bob Torkelson told SND that he expects that the deal will close in early 2026.

Last year, Mumm Napa produced 334,000 cases. The brand offers a variety of wines retailing from around $20 to over $100. According to Trinchero, winemaking will continue as usual at Mumm Napa, with the new ownership maintaining existing contracts with Mumm Napa’s longtime grapegrowing partners. “There’s still some life around [the sparkling wine] category that we think can be added to our portfolio,” said Torkelson. “It’s a great fit; there’s nothing redundant in it.”

The buy gives Trinchero one of the leading American sparkling wine brands, with Mumm Napa third in the segment behind only Korbel and Chandon by volume. While the brand has decreased somewhat since its 2021 peak of 410,000 cases, those declines have come as Pernod Ricard divested from much of its wine business in the U.S.

“We remain optimistic about the category, and that we’re going to be able to find products that consumers want to continue to support,” said Torkelson. “We think there’s a lot of opportunity on-premise for this. That’s important to us as we want to try to continue to grow our share and our presence in the on-premise.”

Mumm Napa joins a Trinchero portfolio that includes top labels like Sutter Home, Ménage à Trois, Joel Gott, Seaglass, and Fre, plus a higher-end range of wines like Quattro Theory and imports like Avissi Prosecco and Bieler Père & Fils. Additionally, Trinchero is present in the spirits market with brands like Tres Agaves Tequila and Hanson of Sonoma.
