MAI Capital Management Partners With iCapital to Scale Alts Access

Registered investment advisory firm MAI Capital Management LLC has partnered with global fintech platform iCapital to facilitate broader access to alternative investments. Through the integration of iCapital’s technology into MAI’s custom platform, MAI’s in-house investment team will be able to manage and administer clients’ existing and future alts transactions.

“We took great care in selecting a technology partner to support and scale our alternatives business and felt a natural fit with the team at iCapital,” said Kurt Nye, chief investment officer and managing partner at MAI. “Our focus is to build and manage bespoke portfolios built to preserve and create wealth across generations. With the support of iCapital, our team can now spend more time focusing on our diversified portfolios, balancing risk, and deepening client relationships instead of being bogged down by the operational intensity of alternative investments.”

According to MAI, iCapital’s end-to-end technology will provide its advisers with a solution to simplify the process of reconciling alternative investment and fund data, streamline document management and fund finance activities, and enable more efficient workflows. MAI’s investment team will also have the capability to create custom portfolios and complete related due diligence for clients. iCapital will manage the associated oversight functions and support ongoing operations and efficiencies for MAI’s advisers and clients.

iCapital has also agreed, according to the companies, to manage a set of existing funds currently managed by MAI as part of the partnership.

“We are honored that the MAI Capital Management team entrusted iCapital to help streamline its workflows and administrative needs within alternatives,” said Steve Houston, managing director and co-head of iCapital solutions. “As private market allocations become an increasingly important component of diversified investment portfolios, we share a common goal with MAI to help advisers scale without losing sight of what matters – helping their clients achieve better financial outcomes.”

With more than 50 years of advising high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth clients, MAI specializes in comprehensive financial planning and investment management for individuals and families. It delivers financial and estate planning, investment management, tax planning, insurance, accounting, and philanthropic strategies. MAI’s private markets platform comprises alternative funds across various strategies including real assets, private equity, private credit, venture capital and hedge funds.

According to MAI, the partnership provides its RIAs with a complete suite of technology and educational content to help them navigate and deliver private market investments to clients.

MAI is a registered investment adviser and wealth management firm founded in 1973 and headquartered in Cleveland. As of March 31, 2025, it had $33.2 billion in total assets including $3.9 billion in assets under advisement.

iCapital is a global fintech company supporting the alternative investments marketplace. Its solutions enable organizations to streamline and scale their operational infrastructure for alternative investments and to provide access to direct investments and feeder funds at lower minimums through simplified digital workflows. iCapital reports more than $220 billion in global platform assets.
