ARTnews and Artforum, two of the world’s leading authorities on art, announced Thursday the launch of New York’s first-ever dedicated Art Week, dubbed Art Week NYC.

The upcoming four-day event, set to run November 11 to Novvember 14, will bring together public programming, neighborhood walking tours, artist talks, gallery openings and more. Among the highlights are a Midtown hub programmed by ARTnews and sister magazine Art in America, featuring conversations with top figures in the art world, and ARTnews editor-led tours in each of New York’s top gallery districts, from the Upper East Side to Chinatown.

Artforum, meanwhile, will partner with galleries on openings themed to different neighborhoods, and offer a day of public programming at the New Museum.

(While there have been previous events informally dubbed New York Art Week, those have generally centered around art fairs like Frieze and the Armory Show.)

“Art is more important to more people than ever before, and I’m excited to see Art Week activate the city and its cultural institutions,” Sarah Douglas, Editor-in-Chief of ARTnews and Art in America said in a press statement. “Every day ARTnews and Art in America bring audiences news from and commentary on the global art world; Art Week will remind us that that world is, at its heart, about community.”

Luke Bahrenburg, President, Art and Luxury Group, Penske Media Corporation, parent company of ARTnews and Artforum, called the event an “unprecedented” and “transformative” platform where “deeper dialogues about art and its broader cultural connections can thrive.”

Danielle McConnell, Publisher of Artforum praised the new event as gallery focused, and celebrating New York as an “unparalleled ecosystem.”

““We’re profoundly grateful to the galleries, museums, and cultural partners for opening their doors to welcome audiences into the spaces where art is best experienced,” she said in a statement. “This week is a celebration of their commitment to keeping art at the center of our city’s cultural heartbeat.”
