Tottenham talent: Alexander McQueen’s foundation launches north London art hub – The Art Newspaper

A sparkling new art hub with 14 artists’ studios, an education space and a top-notch new café has opened in the northern reaches of London. This arty enclave in Tottenham is the new home for the Sarabande Foundation, which was established by the late fashion designer Lee Alexander McQueen to support emerging creatives.

The new Sarabande space on 808-812 High Road is housed in adjoining town houses dating from the early 18th century (look out for original architectural features such as centuries-old layers of wallpaper). Alumni artists such as Jo Grogan and Castro Smith have carved designs into the York stone floor of the café while this year’s impressive cohort of artist residents include Rizza Zahid, Tom Hallimond, Victoria Ruiz and Jack Laver.

“Sarabande is joining a vibrant growing community [contributing] to the cultural life that already makes Tottenham a dynamic place to work and create,” says a statement. Project supporters include the National Lottery Heritage Fund which gave £2.6m and Tottenham Hotspur football club who match funded the amount and also own both buildings (oof!). As Tracey Emin noted on Insta: “So good”.
